(ECNS) -- The first batch of China-made hydrogen-powered smart trams destined for Malaysia rolled off the production line at the Yibin factory of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd., on Monday.

The world's first hydrogen-powered smart tram was delivered and successfully completed trial tests in Kuching, Malaysia in July 2023.

Compared with its prototype, these mass-produced smart trams have achieved several upgrades including autonomous driving, energy saving and environmental protection capabilities.

They adopt a distributed independent suspension power system, and can meet 10-percent climbing capacity, suitable for Malaysia road conditions.

They also include a multi-purpose area, allowing wheelchair users, passengers with large baggage and bicycles to take the train.

The intelligent rail transit system developed by the CRRC that integrates the advantages of rail transit and public transportation. The company will deliver 38 hydrogen-powered smart trams in batches to Malaysia, of which 17 trams are expected to be put into operations by the end of 2025.

Successful deployment of the smart tram in Malaysia will effectively alleviate the traffic congestion in Kuching, bringing a reliable, efficient and modern mode of travel to the locals.
