People in Lhasa, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, are buzzing with excitement as they prepare for their most grandiose celebration of the year, the Xizang New Year.
On Monday, the ancient city of Lhasa was filled with the enticing aroma wafting from shops that make and sell Kasai, a traditional pastry of the New Year. Bakers stretched soft dough into shapes of strip, square, circle and butterfly, and then fried each piece in melted butter until it turns a beautiful golden hue, creating the delectable treat.
Kasai is a symbol of auspiciousness, prosperity and happiness, embodying the hopes and blessings for the year ahead.
