(ECNS) — More than 920 Chinese nationals suspected of cross-border telecom fraud were handed over to Chinese authorities by Myanmar through the Daluo border crossing in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, according to China's Ministry of Public Security on Wednesday.
This marks another major achievement of China and Myanmar in the ongoing joint crackdown on telecom fraud, following the dismantling of large-scale scam operations in northern Myanmar, according to the Ministry.
Since the launch of the special operation, over 55,000 suspects have been apprehended.
While many criminal dens were destroyed, some suspects relocated to remote areas of Myanmar to continue illegal activities.
In response, Chinese police intensified intelligence gathering and provided leads to their Myanmar counterparts. They are now fully engaged in investigating the transferred cases.
The ministry emphasized that the crackdown will continue, urging suspects abroad to return and surrender themselves in exchange for leniency.
