East China launches heavy ion medical center for cancer treatment
(ECNS) -- The Heavy Ion Medical Center was officially opened on Saturday at Mazu branch of Fujian Medical University Union Hospital in Putian City, Fujian Province.
The Mazu branch is the first comprehensive cancer treatment center on the Chinese mainland to integrate globally advanced radiotherapy techniques such as heavy ion and boron neutron therapy.

Heavy ion therapy is a cutting-edge radiotherapy that causes minimal damage to healthy tissues while delivering powerful destruction to tumor cells, said Xu Benhua, deputy director of Fujian Medical University Union Hospital. He noted that the treatment offers shorter treatment cycles, pain-free procedures, minimal side effects, and survival rates, offering new hope to cancer patients.
With the Mazu branch now operational, Putian has become the fifth city in China to offer heavy ion therapy, following Shanghai, Lanzhou, Wuwei, and Hangzhou.
