Hong Kong (CNS) -- Xiao Hui, a junior in the Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management, Chinese University of Hong Kong, won the first actual real-time stock investment competition mounted in the SAR.
The top ten players facing off in round two were selected from more than 1,000 competitors during the first round of the game in September 2011.
Each worked with 20,000 Hong Kong dollars (HKD) of principal, and had to earn as much as possible during the two months of the final play-off. Xiao, 24, beat all other contenders with his profit of 12,624 HKD.
Enlightened by the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" at the age of 13, Xiao started to build his knowledge of the stock market and keep an eye on its performance, he said.
During his high school days in Singapore, he taught himself investment theories and practiced financial deals at his leisure, experimenting with stocks, foreign exchange, bonds and funds. He earned his first million at the age of 23.
Investment is never speculation, concluded Xiao. For beginners, the breakeven goal is first and foremost, because you can never rely on luck, only experience, he suggests.
